Joanne Bates


JOANNE BATES has been a member of the Princeton Symphony Orchestra for 28 years, serving the first 17 years as principal. A native of Philadelphia, she is a graduate of The Curtis Institute of Music. She has been the recipient of a Ford Foundation Fellowship and was the Koussevitzky Foundation Fellow at the Tanglewood Music Center. Joanne is a former member of the Board of Directors of The International Society of Bassists, and authored several articles appearing in their publication. She has performed as a substitute member of The Philadelphia Orchestra and was the first woman ever to play in their double bass section. Joanne would like to thank the loyal and supportive PSO audience for making it possible for the orchestra to continue to present concerts featuring new music and emerging artists.
