VivaceAbout Christopher Taylor Christopher Taylor stands out as an innovative musician. He has performed with the New York Philharmonic, St. Louis Symphony, and Detroit Symphony, given recitals in major venues worldwide, and toured on the innovative dual-manual Steinwayperforming Bachs Goldberg Variations. While known for passionate advocacy of music written in the past 100 years, particularly Messiaen, Ligeti, and Bolcom, his repertoire spans four centuries and includes the complete Beethoven sonatas, Liszts Transcendental Etudes, and Liszts transcriptions of Beethovens nine symphonies. In 2022, he completed the Beethoven Symphony cycle at the Gardner Museum of Art, all performed from memory. Taylor has captured the music world with his tour de force of Messiaens VingtRegards sur lEnfant-Jsus, which he recorded live for DVD release. He has appeared at Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and dozens of other venues, and has collaborated with many prominent ensembles, including the Borromeo, Shanghai, and Ying quartets. Taylor was named an American Pianists Association Fellow in 2000, awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant in 1996, the Van Cliburn Bronze Medal in 1993, and named the winner of the Kapell Competition in 1990.
